Spring in New Jersey can be quite beautiful. It can also be fleeting. It’s been a cold, rather miserable spring up to this point, but the last two days saw temps reaching up into the 80s! Spring at last…. more like summer, but we’ll take what we can get.
I decided to do some yard work, but found that the heat was quite draining after not having much of it lately, so didn’t get as much done as I would have liked. But after lunch my husband and I decided to go to one of our favorite water-side places to take a walk. Our various thermometers disagreed as to exact temperature – but it is safe to say it was in the low 80s. I wore a tank top and shorts.
It was a couple of miles to our favorite walking spot, and as we drove over the river to get there, we could feel the temps dropping. By the time we parked the car the temperature was down to around 70. Combine that with a tank top and shorts, and breeze off the water, and lets just say we didn’t stay long. We opted for our second favorite walking spot, hoping that it would be a little more protected from the breeze.
A mile or two in the car, and by the time we got there the temp had dropped to 65 and it was even breezier.
We headed home, defeated in our attempt, but laughing.
Back home the temp had dropped to the low 70s. We apparently had picked just the wrong time to try for our waterside walk.
After dinner, now changed into jeans and a sweatshirt we decided to go for a walk around our local park. But by now the temp had dropped into the 50s with a steady wind. Once again, we were too cold to go far. (I could have put on my winter coat and been fine, but darn it. It was in the 80s only hours ago, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it!)
Today it won’t get out of the 40s, so it’s back to sweaters and hot cups of tea.
Spring was nice while it lasted. (And I realize just a little north of us they didn’t even get that warm respite, but had temps in the thirties, so I really am grateful for a couple of warm days!)
Here in Rochester we didn’t get any warming. I was surprised to see the NJ weather. Glad you were able to enjoy a little warmth!
I saw that your temps were in the 30s while ours were 80 – don’t remember ever seeing that much disparity in our weather before. Hopefully you’ll get some spring time soon.
